You can see why I'd expect a 3/4 x 10 to be a loose screw-in fit to an M20 x 2.5. It sounds like you tried that in the metric hole, and if so it should not have fit, but the 3/4 x 10 might have.Ī 3/4 x 12 in metric terms would be an "M19.05 x 2.12", and a 3/4 x 10 would similarly in metric terms be an "M19.05 x 2.54". You seem to want an M20 x 2.5, but you also refer to a 3/4 x 12. I am totally unclear as to what your various pieces are. With a 2.5mm pitch, a 10 TPI should have screwed in, especially since a 3/4" bolt is 1 mm under the 20mm nominal major diameter. tap chart unified inch standard metric standard tap size cutting tap drill forming tap drill tap size cutting tap drill forming tap drill 0-80: 3/64: 54: m1.6x0.35. It is about the difference between a 10 tpi and a 17 tpi thread (not exactly that, but close).īUT, if a 12 tpi is a near-fit, that suggests that a 2mm pitch is the correct one. Since the next one is quite different, you should be able to determine the difference easily. It is almost a 10 TPI thread (25.4 mm per inch) and is normally the only one easily available, just as a hardware store normally has only the coarse US threads available. A cutting tool technology and performance leader in our field for over 100 years, EMUGE-FRANKEN manufactures an exhaustive line of taps, end mills. The threads of an M20 x 2.5 are 2.5mm from crest to crest. So the 1, 1.5, and 2.5 are all possible pitches for a 20mm bolt, given in millimeters. The *0.1* is the distance between thread crests of a 10 tpi thread in inches. The metric designation METHOD, if used to describe a US 3/4 x 10 thread, would mean it was described not as a *3/4 x 10*, but as a *3/4 x 0.1* (probably actually as a 0.75 x 0.1, but whatever). Metric threads are designated as a diameter and a pitch, or distance between threads. US threads, and "imperial British" threads are designated as a diameter and a number of threads per inch. Metric thread pitches are designated in the reverse way as US threads. Because I left Colorado for the PNW in the middle of May, my solution was simply not to use city water….”Doctor, it hurts when I move like this….(Doctor): well, don’t move like that.” I have yet to experience any problems when not hooked up to water. Further experimentation determined that water leakage/collection in the cassette bay only happened when hooked up to city water. The water collecting in the cassette compartment is from something entirely different, and to this day I know not what it is. Now as to the leaky shower pan….not the problem. As in my first blog post, I strongly encourage owners or wannabes to join the Solis Facebook Group, where these and other issues and concerns are discussed, as well as tips and tricks…lots of good information. And the latest involves the fresh water tank bulging when full and splitting the wood framing under the sink area, reportedly caused by a “bad batch” of tanks. Also many owners are having problems with the forward floor water hookup either not working or leaking. Another area of concern with leakage is water collecting around the pop top, especially if the van is parked on a nose down slant, then leaking into the van when the vehicle is moved. However, potential purchasers should be aware of serious problems that have cropped up among owners of the Solis: Water leaks in the “pizza oven” area (storage compartment above the cab), usually caused by improper sealing of the running lights when they were reinstalled on the upper front roof area. The good news is that I haven’t had a breaker or fuse trip since the repair and have experienced no further electrical problems in the van. The problem was in the wiring, or so they said. They were finally able to obtain a basic schematic (see above) of the undercarriage electrical box and apparently that 5 Amp breaker was correctly placed. The electrical problem that I described in that post turned out to be inaccurate. I spent months dealing with an authorized service center outside Colorado Springs with an outfit that underwent serious personnel changes and sketchy record keeping. First I want to address a few things from the prior blog post. It did not over-penetrate like some of the bullets and expanded to 0.45in at 3.25in depth with an impressive 0.5in wound channel. Eley Subs turned in some impressive results. The CCI penetrated 3.4in, just behind the Remington round, but the bullet expansion was larger at 0.35 in, probably due to the softer lead used and larger hollowpoint cavity. With its 40.3-grain bullet, the Winchester expanded well to 0.35in and penetrated 2.95in, allowing all the energy to be transferred to the target in the quickest possible time. Undoubtedly the soft heavy lead projectile travelling at the slowest velocity performed admirably in the tests. The expansion was 0.4in – the second largest of the bullets on test, with a broad 0.35in wound channel. The RWS had the shortest bullet path in length at 2.8in, which bodes well for effective transferral of its energy within the quarry. This can be explained as the Lapua was the second-fastest bullet tested and one of the lightest, which ordinarily would cause a rapid expansion, but the bullet was the hardest of all the bullets and therefore failed to expand well in these tests. In the penetration test, the RWS produced the least penetration, while the Lapua gave the most.I always look for an accurate, consistent bullet that expands and has maximum stoppage within the quarry if possible. Their primary use is to despatch game such as rabbits as humanely as possible, but still produce good exterior ballistics such as flat trajectory, accuracy and stopping power.Īt the same time, I do not wish for over-penetration or carry over, where the bullet’s killing power is lost. I questioned what I wanted from a subsonic round. 22LR shot a consistent 1,071fps with resulting 101.4ft/lb energy from the 39.8-grain bullet. LapuaĪ good pedigree from the target circuit and its subsonic. This had a very thick wax coating and nice hollowpoint design of relatively soft lead when compared with the other bullet types. This was the slowest velocity ammunition tested with an average velocity of 991fps and an energy figure of 87.9ft/lb. The newer variety was fast for a subsonic at 1,077fps with 102.5ft/lb over the chronograph because it has a lighter bullet. This has a measured 39.8 grains lead hollowpoint small cavity bullet, very different from the old hollowpoint copper washed bullet. The velocity and energy figures over the chronograph were 1,029fps and 91ft/lb. It is almost a clone of the Eley, except it is shorter and it has three lubricant bands rather than two. RemingtonĪ relative newcomer in the subsonic rankings, weighing in at 38.7 grains. There is a slight lubricant on the surface and the biggest hollowpoint cavity of all the bullets tested. This weighed a measured 40.3 grains and gave a 1,065fps and 101.5ft/lb. Its actual weight was 40.61 grains and it produced a velocity of 1,032fps and 95.1ft/lb. This is intended to give superior stopping power. The bullet weighs 40.2 grains of hollowpoint design. This has a newer, lighter wax lubricant covering. 22LR rimfire subsonic ammunition available from Eley, Winchester, Remington, CCI, RWS and Lapua. I also looked at each bullet design and weighed them to get a real bullet weight and measured a five-shot string over my chronograph to give a fuller picture of ballistics at the end of the testing. For every bullet, I shot two soap-bar tests and took the mean result. The trick is to mount the soap in the same way on the range for each test. Of course soap is not the same as animal flesh but it does give a consistent basis to compare each bullet’s performance. The test was to measure the depth of penetration and the bullet expansion. Subsonic ammo is more accurate than supersonic Testing The range test for these was 30 yards and the rifle used was a Ruger M77/22 rimfire.Įach brand of ammunition was sighted in at 30 yards and any differing point of impact noted and compensated for on the soaps, which were securely fixed. I purchased some soap bars measuring 2in x 2in and cut to approximately 6in lengths to test the penetration of each bullet. 22LR rimfire subsonic ammunition from varying manufacturers to ascertain accuracy and stopping power at normal vermin ranges. With these goals in mind I chose six types of. Poor performance of penetration or expansion can mean less than perfect results. Humane accuracyĪccuracy and the performance of the bullet are essential for achieving a humane shot. Every rifle has an ammunition type that suits it best – although people frequently choose the cheapest or some recommended by a friend. I think this is a pity, because in order to achieve the best from your rimfire and for the rifle to achieve its potential, it takes a little time and methodical testing. 22 is often ranked lower than a stalking rifle or shotgun – so sometimes the calibre suffers from being viewed with a casual attitude. 22 rimfire have found it inexpensive and accurate for vermin. It dies back to the ground during cold weather and grows back when the weather is more favorable. This variety grows in USDA hardiness zones seven to nine and is drought and alkaline tolerant. It prefers moist, well-drained soils and full sunlight. – Growing RequirementsĬrepe myrtle grows in almost any soil – sand, loam, or clay. Its dark foliage contrasts the flowers, turning orange in the fall. The flowers would start growing in gorgeous purple, red, pink, or white. – FeaturesĬrape is commonly grown in commercial and domestic landscapes across North America, is known for its vibrant and long-lasting flowers that bloom every summer and fall. At times, you may even find this flowering tree to be known as the Lagerstroemia Indica. Crepe Myrtle TreeĬrepe myrtle is native to North America Northern Australia, Southeast Asia, and some Oceania areas. And in spring, you will see it grow and blossom. Pruning is best done in early spring, removing the dead plants to allow robust flowering. This shrub does best in hot weather, however, when it is in cooler climates, you can prune it severely to the ground during winter, and it will grow back in the spring. You can grow it in USDA hardiness zones five through eight under direct sunlight, because it will not get sunburned, but on the contrary, it will bloom and produce more flowers. Water it frequently before it gets established after that, you might never have to water it. – Growing RequirementsĬhaste trees thrive in dry, well-drained soils. Because this tree is a loved one, you can find it under the scientific name of Vitex Agnus-castus. The blooms attract butterflies, hummingbirds, and other pollinators.Ĭhaste tree is known by other names, including chaste berry, lilac chaste tree, Texas lilac, or monk’s pepper. It has blue and violet flowers that bloom from early summer to early fall. This plant produces grayish-green, palm-shaped foliage. – FeaturesĬhaste is not a very tall tree, but a tall shrub that you can train into a tree. The chaste tree is native to Asia and Europe and belongs to the Verbena family, and when it blooms during spring, it thrives with its beautiful flowers. It will not thrive in coastal regions as it’s not tolerant to salt. The soil must be fertile and kept moist frequently. It thrives in USDA hardiness zones 9b to 11 under full sun and sandy or dry soil, what’s important is that it should be a well-draining one so that the roots won’t rot. The jacaranda tree requires enough space to accommodate it as it can grow up to 66 feet tall when mature. The reason why it has different names is that this tree is found in different areas, and it has common features but at times the flowers may grow a little deeper in blue. Other common names for this tree include the fern tree, jacaranda, blue jacaranda, Nupur, or black poui. It can bloom all year long in frost-free areas, but exposure to frost kills it. This tree makes excellent shade and street trees, but is not suitable for small yards because it will grow taller and wider. The blooms would start to show from early spring to summer with clusters of beautiful and fragrant trumpet-shaped flowers. This Jacaranda genus tree announces the arrival of the spring season in South Florida with its fairy-tale flowers, in addition to the fragrance of the nectar in flowers. The Jacaranda tree of the Bignoniaceae family also called the Jacaranda Mimosifolia is native to South America but has been grown everywhere due to its attractive and long-lasting violet-colored blooms and fern-like foliage. Lack of drawing tools limits creativity.Room for better integration with Scrivener.Though if you like to brainstorm ideas or use post-it notes for anything, this app is a great option for digitising that work. If you’re a full on pantser, I doubt you’ll find much use for Scapple. It doesn’t help you manage your documents or organise your manuscript, but it offers a wonderful tool for fleshing out your story in greater detail, while providing a fantastic visual overview that is hugely flexible and easy to adjust. As mentioned in my Scrivener review, the corkboard is a great tool for helping to organise your novel. That said, I’ve found Scapple a very useful tool. But for everything else – character development, world building, descriptions – I leave that to the journey along the way. Not only do I want to know where I’m going, I like to have a rough idea of how I’m going to get there. When it comes to the two camps of plotting versus pantsing, I fall somewhere in the middle. I’m quite confident I won’t stick to it perfectly, but it will definitely help guide me through the journey… even when I take it off road. The finished article.Īs you can see, the finished product might look a little complicated, but it’s actually a really straightforward, effective road map of the entire story. I then connected the various scenes to depict the flow of the story, creating a timeline of events, and, in effect, a storyboard for the plot. Each new note represented a scene, complete with a description of what takes place and a style to denote which POV character is involved. Developing the structure.Īs the structure developed, so did the scenes. So the story moved from a linear timeline to something more akin to Reservoir Dogs. This helped me to develop the story structure, in which I realised past events played just as important a role as current events. Once I had that, I could begin unravelling how the characters would get from point A to point B. This involved identifying the opening scene, and, more importantly, figuring out how the story should end. Next up, I started a new Scapple project for the more serious task of outlining the plot. Little more than an introduction to help familiarise myself with the characters. I mean, that’s one hell of a cast, right? I also included a very brief, one/two word description of the character based on the earlier notes. I began with a very basic overview of the main characters, detailing no more than their name, an image to help develop their description, and in some cases the name of an actor (whom I may or may not like to see play them in the movie… if I had such frivolous thoughts). I laid out the basic premise of the story, including a few ideas on how the plot would unfold and a brief description of the characters involved.Īrmed with this, I then got to work in Scapple. Maybe it will always feel that way? Maybe every book calls for its own approach?Įither way, my latest work-in-progress started as a note on my phone. I ’m currently up to book number 3 (and 4, if my plan to work on two simultaneously comes off), but it still feels like my writing technique is under development. It’s completely free form meaning you can move your notes anywhere on the page and it will automatically adjust so you never run out of space. You can stack notes in columns of related ideas, or create background shapes to group them together. You can drag and drop your note onto another to create connections between them, as well as customise their appearance and style. Type in what you want the note to say, then click off it and job done. Double-click anywhere in the page and a new. It’s described on the website as “a virtual sheet of paper that lets you make notes anywhere and connect them using lines or arrows,” which pretty much sums it up perfectly. S capple is the sister app of Literature and Latte’s Scrivener (check my review here), with the former doing for notes, ideas and brainstorming what the latter does for novel writing. This week, I’m taking a look at a tool I’ve started using for outlining: Scapple. Hopefully you’ll find something along the way that helps improve your writing experience. It’s all just a matter of opinion though, so take from it what you will and bin the rest. In these articles, I’m going to share with you my opinions of the tools and techniques I’ve come across throughout my writing experience, hopefully offering an insight into what works and what doesn’t. |
